Adventures in the Arts for Ages 7–14

Julian Krinsky Creative & Performing Arts Camp is a wondrous place where talented campers and counselors spend fun-filled summer days exploring the traditions, techniques and expressive opportunities of the classic art forms. Whether your child wants to try the arts for the first time or improve his or her interpretive and technical skills, our staff can help achieve those goals.

Creative & Performing Arts Camp offers boys and girls professional instruction in their choice of an arts major along with elective workshops. Each camp session explores a stylistic theme based on a historic era, a culture, an exceptional artist or arts genre, or other subjects. The theme becomes the focus of the campers’ work, culminating in a stage production showcasing those efforts on the final Friday of the session. Parents, family and friends invited!.

Four Majors for a Summer of Artistic Growth

Fine Arts — Going beyond elementary “arts and crafts,” this is artwork that challenges young people to think and create from their imaginations. Our projects are multi-dimensional, highly personal and include ceramics, sculpture, environmental art, painting and drawing. The process is hands-on and exuberant, with an end result campers can be proud of. Fine arts students create and assemble scenery and backdrops for the end-of-session stage show. Great theater experience!

Theater — Acting and performance art are the core of this major, which teaches each student to use his or her imagination, body and voice to bring characters to life on stage. Trained theater professionals teach improvisation, movement and characterization, as well as story development and script writing. Campers may also take on the roles of assistant stage manager, lighting and sound technicians, and assistant choreographer.

Dance — Every young person has a natural ability and inclination to dance. The dance major develops this inherent talent by teaching creative dance techniques inspired by the dances and music of various cultures. Hip-hop, tap, musical theater, jazz and modern dance are joined in a program that emphasizes fun while drawing on each child’s special aptitude.

Costuming — Costumes are a big part of every show. They help define the characters, give the show a sense of time and place, and add to the visual spectacle on stage. Plus, it's fun being onstage in an amazing costume you made yourself. If you like making things with your hands and love lots of colors, you'll enjoy working on costumes for our show. From session to session, we'll also explore areas like mask making and creating puppets.

Daily Activities

Life at Julian Krinsky Creative & Performing Arts Camp is activity filled, but at a comfortable pace. A typical day begins with a warm-up period. During the morning, campers attend classes in their chosen major and work on specific skills with individualized attention. The classes vary with each session but typically cover subjects such as sculpture, voice and singing, dance performance, improvisational comedy, fabric art and batiking, stage makeup and more.

After a buffet lunch in the school dining room, campers rotate in same-age groups through a series of workshops that let them work on skills outside their major. In addition, campers can choose supervised swimming as part of their program.
