Project Description

GLOBAL YOUNG LEADERS ACADEMY – FINANCE

A new [email protected] High School summer program for 2019

The [email protected] High School (KWHS) Global Young Leaders Academy – Finance is the latest addition to the successful KWHS summer program. An alternative to the existing GYLA sessions that teach business and entrepreneurship, this latest module launched in 2019 provides current high school students from around the globe with a two-week summer experience at Wharton focusing on finance and investment.

With the guidance of Wharton faculty and Ph.D. students, participants will explore all aspects of finance, from the time value of money and corporate finance to ethics and investment decision-making. Students will trade on Wharton’s Online Trading & Investment Simulator — using real-world market data without risking real money — and develop and deliver a team-based investment project. In addition to rigorous coursework, GYLA students collaborate closely in smaller teams, experience campus life, develop relationships with classmates from around the world, and discover Philadelphia and other local destinations.

“I feel the program enlightened me to the smaller principles of business and helped me to expand the horizons of my knowledge. The classes were enriching, and being taught by the faculty of Wharton was a lifetime experience.”

Mohammed S., Student

“The program far exceeded my expectations. The experiences I had, the people I met, the lectures, the feeling of being taught by Ivy League professors — that’s what created a whole new experience. I don’t think I’ve spent a summer more productively, a summer with such amazing people from different cultures, a summer so different. That’s what made this a truly amazing experience. If I could, I would surely come back.”

Srika R., Student

“Living 12,000 km away from home gave me the ability and confidence to live by myself. My favorite class was the Startup Game. I loved the chaotic atmosphere present in the room, working with people and finding the best deals. GYLA provides a great insight into college life and how it feels to belong to an Ivy League institution.”

Matthew T., Student
