Sponsored by the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton Sports Business Initiative (WSBI), the Wharton Sports Business Academy (WSBA) is a summer institute that provides an opportunity for talented rising high school juniors and seniors to study sports business leadership at the Wharton School.
The Wharton Sports Business Academy examines academic disciplines such as management, law, negotiation, marketing and leadership as they apply to the sports industry, with an overview of intercollegiate, Olympic and professional sports enterprises.
Academic and co-curricular activities will give you the opportunity to test your potential as a future sports business leader while you gain insight into the leadership, management and increasingly global nature of the sports business. In addition, you’ll meet leaders in the sports business world and visit some of the region’s highest profile facilities as you explore ownership, sports agents and celebrity endorsements.
As a WSBA student, you will:
You’ll spend mornings in class at the Wharton School’s state-of-the-art Jon M. Huntsman Hall. You’ll be learning from three leading sports business professors: Ken Shropshire, Scott Rosner and Andrew Brandt, who are known for their ability to simplify and explain difficult concepts with enthusiasm as they make classroom topics come to life.
Afternoons will be spent meeting with and learning from some of the most respected leaders in the sports industry, either in the classroom or at sports facilities. Site visits may include Citizens Bank Park, Citi Field, Wells Fargo Center, PPL Park, Lincoln Financial Field, historic Franklin Field, the oldest operating college football stadium, and the Palestra, Penn’s famous basketball, volleyball and wrestling arena.
