CAMPUS HIGHLIGHTS

Yale Summer Academy

Students attending the Yale Summer Academy live in the dorms at Yale together. Experience evening activities, weekend trips and dorm life with other students your age. To learn more about admission deadlines, dates, and pricing, visit the Yale Summer Academy page here.

WEEKEND AND EVENING ACTIVITIES

One of the most memorable parts of JKCP are all the fun evening activities and weekend trips.

There is always something to do when class is over: movies, tours, games, events and more. These activities are led by the residential advisors. The campus is surrounded by dozens of shops and restaurants that are fun to explore with friends.

A trip to New York City is offered on Saturday for exploring and sightseeing. Sunday is a more relaxed day for exploring campus and New Haven.

GENERAL INFO

You’ll be living on campus in one of Yale’s Residential Colleges in a single or double occupancy dorm room with shared restrooms. Dorm rooms are furnished with a bed, desk, chair and dresser. If you are in a double, you will be rooming with someone who is similar in age and grade in school. You will be provided with your room number, room location and roommate’s name when you arrive on campus.

Each Residential College boasts plenty of outdoor space in the courtyard, a game room, library, and plenty of space to socialize and study. Laundry facilities are available in the basement along with vending machines and a lounge. You’ll also love living just a short walk from the Yale Bookstore, retail stores, coffee shops and restaurants.

On-Campus Meals

You’ll eat breakfast, lunch, and most dinners during the week at the campus dining center. On the weekends, breakfast on Saturday and brunch and dinner on Sunday are served on campus. The food at the program is typical of a college cafeteria. You are given the freedom to make your own choices. Salad, fruit, vegetables, sandwich deli bar and different hot entrees accompany each lunch and dinner.

Off-Campus Meals

Off-campus meals are at your expense. You will eat off campus for lunch and dinner on your Saturday trip.

As it is in college dining halls, you are given the freedom to make your own choices. There are always multiple options available for each meal including vegetarian and gluten-free choices. If you have special dietary needs or allergies, please contact us prior to your arrival.

If you don’t feel well, just let a member of the Residential Staff know and we’ll help you get better in no time. Chances are you won’t need it, but we have a nurse and doctor on-call and the Residential College is only a few steps away from Yale Health, a medical center located on the Yale campus. As long as you keep taking any medicine you normally do at home, eat right and get some sleep, you should have nothing to worry about.

Safety on and off campus is always our number one priority. We have found a residential staff member to student ratio of approximately 1:10 is the perfect balance of freedom coupled with safe supervision. You are always required to stay in groups of three or more and to check-in at regular intervals when off campus.

We at JKCP are proactive about your safety:

  • 24/7 Yale campus safety
  • Extensive staff background checks
  • Intensive staff and student orientations
  • Staff trained to handle situations discreetly, with care and sensitivity
  • Professionally designed crisis management plan
  • Access to the region’s top hospitals within minutes
  • A registered nurse and doctor who are always on call
